Do we need nuclear energy to stop climate change? More and more voices from science, environmental activists and the press have been saying so in recent years - but this comes as a shock to those who are fighting against nuclear energy and the problems that come with it. So who is right? Well - it is complicated.

    • Stupid science Science doesn't know Virus sperm are extremely sophisticated, the function of viral sperms is create enzymes, the virus sperm enters the egg to produce enzymes, enzymes are extremely sophisticated

    • Stupid science Science doesn't know Nuclear decay creates fire ...

    • Urine NH3, is a carcinogen

    • god vidios!

  • Only opinion I have is this. JUST DO IT! Renewable energy and nuclear energy cannot do the jobs alone. And while it's true nuclear energy is responsible for nightmares from the past, that's only because the nuclear energy was weaponized. If it was instead used to push fossil fuels out of the picture we'd already see a vast change in our climates. The truth is this, we best take action, and we best do it soon. Because climate change is not a good thing, and can lead to global extinction. Our governments and our society need to be persuaded that nuclear and renewable energy sources are the future, and it does not matter if they like it or not. Fossil fuels are doing nothing but harming the planet. And we risk the wrath of mother nature the longer we use it.

  • 0:28 surely you mean 3/4 of global HUMAN emissions, right?

  • * God's grace * Did you know that God loves you so much that he sent Jesus to save us? Jesus is the son of God! And he loves you very much! To have proof of this, we can say that he emptied himself of all his glory and stepped on the earth! Isn't that wonderful? And there's more! He assured us of salvation! He fulfilled the mission that God gave him! Which is to have a death on the cross for all people in the world! * How do I get to heaven? * It's very simple! -Accept Jesus as your Lord and only Savior! - Repent of your sins daily even those you don't know because you sinned out of ignorance! -Recognize that you do not deserve God's salvation but even with your faults He wanted to save you with his great love and grace! Now about keeping your faith -Read the Bible daily -Pray and fast -Go to a church that follows the word of God May God bless you greatly! 👋

  • Why didn't you talk about nuclear fusion.

  • I dont care if we need to build nuclear power I just don’t want a new iceage

  • What a about the geothermal power plants? Is it not worth it or something? I hardly ever hear it mentioned in the discussion of green energy sources

  • I live in South Carolina and a nuclear power plant construction project failed a few years ago

  • Lol climate change good one this channels got jokes

  • The biggest obstacle is oil tycoon fearing they will lose the business to renewables

  • 5:16 - Ahhhh 😂

  • Wont we have to burn fossil fuels to make these renewable energies?

  • 2:10 magenemite be like: Hello

  • Sekiro at 1:45! Good choice green birb!

  • 7:54 This video games co-op section is adorable!

  • though that the thing that comes out of the chimney was CO2

  • I don’t even need to watch the video, yes.

  • 10:22 Shouldn't the bird go backwards? .__________________________________. You didn't think that through, did you..? xd

  • 1:44 was that guy playing sekiro shadows die twice ?

  • Me: * Sees 02:11* *_Gotta catch 'em all-_*

  • 9:04 the cute little bird is so smol

  • the sun doesnt always shine ?, come to the south of gran canaria and take a look

  • Sorry but hate to tell you man made climate change as a fraud real climate change is actually caused by the sun which goes through periodic cycles of activity and inactivity every 11 years it's called solar maximum and solar minimum all of this man made climate change garbage is about implementing socialism so rich people can get richer and have more control and they gain that money and power and control by over taxation and over regulation also there are other factors that proves that man-made climate change is fraudulent

    • @TheAdvertisement by the way I could provide many other examples of how your socialist religion is fraudulent but you choose to live in fear and worship your puppet Masters and let them have all the power and the money into control like the cowards you are sorry you lose again

    • @TheAdvertisement speaking of which you do know that science also proves that our environmental system is a self cleaning self-sustaining self-replicating system system that's proven by the fact that when you have large forest fires or volcanic activity global temperatures always cool but they go back to normal once that activity subsides also solar bombardment proves it solar radiation and solar flare striking our magnetosphere always distorts it but it goes back to normal once that event is over sorry but you lose again

    • @TheAdvertisement all of this climate change nonsense is about making your puppet Master's richer through over taxation and over regulation and implement socialism sorry but it's a fraud and science proves that is a fraud

    • @TheAdvertisement by the way it's funny but temperatures outside of cities are actually cooler got to stop letting useful idiots like you who live in cities dictate the rest of us so rich people can get richer

    • @TheAdvertisement oh by the way whatever happened to those melting polar ice caps at Al Gore talked about oh wait a minute that never happened in fact the polar ice caps are thicker than ever and it's proven sorry but you lose again

  • Nuclear has two advantages. One it could cut back on fossil fuel production by providing an alternate energy. Two if it catastrophically fails it can cut back on fossil fuel use by killing everyone nearby. Win-win. 🤦‍♂️ See here is my problem with nuclear energy. It COULD be amazing if we didn’t make mistakes. But the problem is that we are human, and I just can’t see a world in which I can trust that corners won’t be cut in the name of profit. Or any other number of human errors.

  • Nuclear is the way we could get there fastest and most efficiently at PRESENT understanding. Renewables may improve over the decades but if we want to make radical change fast we need to employ nuclear more. I definitely think the future of nuclear science is to tap into the spent energy until we've found a way to completely utilize every last "drop" of energy left in traditionally considered "spent" fuel.

  • Given the urgency of climate change, we need to do everything in our power to make fossil fuels a thing of the past. Since renewable cannot, so far, provide all of the electricity that we need. Nuclear needs to be part of our electric-generation mix.

  • Massive arrays of solar panels outside Earth's atmosphere!!!!

  • "considering the risks of climate change we should use nuclear"?? What about the risks of nuclear ? Nuclear NO thanks! It's not worth the risk!

    • There's very little risk about going nuclear, which they already discussed in a previous video.

    • Given the fact, how the new safety systems work, new Chernobyl isn't on the horizon. Renewable energy would be great but it's unpredictable and it doesn't meet the demand. Also, emissions from nuclear are minimal.

  • Anyone else notice the kahoot music in the background😂

  • U guys should do a video on fuel cell tech and hydrogen fuel

  • Man I really hope we develop alt fuels like hydrogen fast. Nothing will replace the sound of an engine.

  • The main reason nuclear has been demonised is because of slander campaigns by big oil companies, money is the problem as always

  • Bruhhhhh this needs to be a game, the renewable energy heroes or something because the models you make look so cool lol

  • Man, the animation is super great

  • If renewable energy dips in the winter, then maybe nuclear could cover the down season? They control the reaction speed of reactors already, so they could just move the control rods in spring, and put them back late fall. I dunno if it is that easy, but that seems better to me.

  • this thing can be done if people stop fighting eachother just for something stupid

  • People who are intelligent enough to contribute to these fields are also intelligent enough to know what they are doing is worth money. Our intellectual property laws are woefully insufficient to encourage the behavior you are after in this regard. If you want to have an impact, that is the real place to start.

  • Humanity is full of idiots that will never change. Elon musk, hurry. Earth will likely become uninhabitable

    • Elon Musk is a genius but he's not the greatest person either tbh.

  • Nuclear energy only makes sense if your goal is saving lives

  • Every Kurzgesagt video just makes me want technocracy even more....let's just put the experts in charge and call it a day.

  • Nuclear is the closest to perfect we will get for probably hunderds of years

  • Kurzgesagt should stop makig good videos. I camt like them all.

  • Go, go, nuclear!

  • Fusion! 👏👏👏 Fusion! 👏👏👏

    • @Ryan S We could throw a lot more money at the problem. Compared to the expected benefits, the funding is abysmal.

    • Fusion is going to take a bit to long, we are spitting distance away from net positive energy, but it still is quite a long time until they become commercially viable.

  • Renewables also take up way more space than a nuclear plant for the same amount of energy output.

  • Sorry for my comment being political. Please be civil. This is a video both democrats and republicans can agree on. Unfortunatelly, I feel like democrats radically oppose fossil fuels and want a switch to renewables right now. Us republicans we don't oppose renewables we just know the change needs to happen gratually and safely to always have energy surplus. Plus meanwhile the renewables are going to get cheaper with time. So it's better to do it later than sooner. So why don't we use fossil fuels till they run out anyway ? Don't worry the world is not gonna end soon, atleast not due to climate change. And then genuine question. How are you gonna make the developing world use renewables when they could care less about emissions ? They just wanna develop...

    • First off, "us republicans" is blatantly false no matter what you're talking about. Not all republicans nor all liberals ever agree on the same things. Second, your ideas are actually pretty liberal, usually with conservatives they don't want to change at all, and due to the money big oil companies make they want to keep fossil fuels going as long as possible. Next, the change does need to happen quickly because if we don't get things going soon, the world could be damaged more. Believe it or not, climate change has already made an impact on the world. Ever taken a look at how the polar ice caps can shrunk significantly? Even if climate change wasn't a thing, it'd be extremely hard to time us running out of fossil fuels to switching to renewables, might as well have renewables ready beforehand. There really is no reason to wait once we have the technology and the means to get things set up.

    • @Žmido The end will not happen soon, but we must end the use of fossil fuels at fast as possible. If we burn them at the rate of today we will have in less than 200 years a warming of 8 degres celsius, with that we will have a sea rise of 6 meters and the regions around the equator would be uninhabitable to animals or plants. Also because of the co2 we will have a cognitive impairment of around 20% and being to long in a room where co2 concentraions are 4-5 times higher could potentially kill someone.

    • @Otopon Tell how is it going to be unhabitable ? We are using fossil fuels for like 150 years and Idk about you but I don't see the end happening anytime soon.

    • We cant use fossil fuels till they ran out because then the earth will be almost uninhabitable for us.

  • The greenbots vs the forces of pollution is my favorite anime

  • Epic. Jesus loves you btw

  • lets just harvest humans and use them for energy... we could put them in some type of simulation while they're producing energy...not sure where i get these ideas from lol

  • I'm for nuclear power! Germany acts like they are amazing but they aren't yeah, everything works nicely but bruh... no Nuclear Power, they used to have Hybrid Busses but they took them off the grid idk why they were so cool...

  • Fusion is the future

  • I think there was a mistake at 2:26, shouldn’t the years be switched?

    • @TheAdvertisement ah you are right, thank you.

    • No? It's showing the comparison of how it increased to 2019.

  • It's so nice to see 14kk subscribers channel constantly makes educational videos on climate change. It really triggers me that for a lot of people this is still "a political topic" not the question of global ecological catastrophe.

  • Great video! I’m always watching it with great like!!!

  • Love that Sekiro reference at 1:45

  • I feel like at least one politician is subbed

  • Its better to keep the world beautiful, green, plant full, because if we just ignore that in a couple hundred, or thousand years we might have to move to a different planet, so we should really make the most of earth before we’ll have to leave it

  • I hope this happens soon because I want to save the earth

  • Think my science teacher needs to watch this channel he might learn something

  • i am a boy on my moms profile

  • booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo to fosil fuels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i am chance ray i love kurzgesagt but i say we should use nuclear temporaroly then only renewables sorry not good at spelling by the way i am 9

  • Sad you buy into the CAGW story so easily

  • You forgot to mention the biggest obstacle of renewables. Fossil fuel companies and their government puppets.

  • Please add Russian subtitles. Your videos are watched by many people from our country, and subtitles will make your content clearer to many of us. Thank you in advance!

  • Hey kurzgesagt i have a question at the rate we are consuming oil when will we run out of oil

  • Amazing video

  • This is the first time I’m able to tell my mom I’m watching something educational 😌✨💅

  • Opinion: we ain't gonna do shit and humanity is going to go extinct because nobody in power cares

  • Own yeaaah, i love nuclear cause i play red alert 2 and play as red side

  • What about underwater turbines We can get infinite electricity from it

  • Unfortunately people here in Germany don’t educate themselves enough with nuclear energy, fossil fuels and renewable energy. Thus the green party took advantage of the disaster of Fukushima, led Germany go into a „nuclear energy, no thanks“ point of view and finally all the fossil energy sources are still running, while the low emssion nuclear power plants are being shut down. People do in fact need more education for this topic and I hope videos like this will find their way to more people

  • nah we Asian are cheap we just get electric from sky - Uncle Roger

  • Nuclear is a bad choice.

    • Kurzgesagt team made hours of research and made a 10 mn video to explain (that took them nearly 2 months) and you come here and say just "nuclear is a bad choice" and go on with no explanation or evidences Nicee :D

  • Use thorium

  • I suggest that the nuclear power plant is the best way for this and next century, but we should control it and stop the reasons which blow up Chernobyl and Fukushima, i think we can gather all of the power plants from a land far from humans, like Antarctica or a hole country from south America, and then i think we can make a new robot technology or at least fewer workers to work and control the power plants and so that we get steam and next electricity. In any case of explosion or meltdown, we get fewer picture of disaster than Chernobyl.

    • @Ariean Troy How is spent fuel in drum polluting earth's soil? It doesn't need to last for 27,000 years, just long enough to build a new one or better one or find use for the spent fuel. Geothermal ain't the way to go, the limits of it are more than obvious.

    • Problem with nuclear plant is that its waste need to be stored in an extremely safe storage and they would lasted for 27.000 years! We want to save the earth from climate change by polluting the earth's soil?? This is why i think geothermal is the way to go.

  • Turkish sublities pls

  • How do I get my own brid

  • Why don't you raise a fund where we can give donations to build some renowable sources of energy extractor to power up your channel's infrastructure?

  • 9gag

  • This dude is teaching me so much science and i nearly started science class

  • You guys should make a videogame.

  • What has poisoned the well for nuclear energy is that those who make the profit from selling 'cheap' nuclear electricity while their plants are operating are nowhere to be seen when it comes to cleaning up their toxic long term legacy- that cost is carried by the general taxpayer. Same for fossil fuels, to be fair. What is sorely missing in this contribution is that the large and increasing consumption of energy is not an immutable given. Kurzgesagt bemoans that technologies to reprocess nuclear waste are known, but not fully implemented - but fails to mention that loft insulation, double glazing, heat pumps and white LED lighting also are known, but not fully implemented. The 'opinion part' begins well before he says so.

    • recyclable parts, And the materials needed for it requires A lot of new mines to be opened in Africa and South America, destroying the habitat we need to protect. And the

  • Look up ThorCom videos. They have a possible solution for the price and safety issues, as well as time spent building them.

  • our roof is full of solar panels. And in the summer, it generates too much for us. So, we are basically don't use electricity from other sources. Only in the winter. But we will get back our overgenerated power.

  • nuclear energy is the best!

  • 9:00: talking seriously about climate change 10:15: immediately diving into an unrelated class on animation

  • Most of the human population acts like a drug addict unwilling to quit when it comes to fossil fuels.

  • Alec-tricity

  • Renewables would be amazing, but storing a large amount of energy is seemingly impossible

  • Petition to make this channel rule the world

  • Ok everybody send India aid and ask for info on how to build Nuclear Plants, combine it with your own tech and make super safe energy production

  • The most promising renewable power tech that ive seen so far it's taking advantage of sea currents

  • Thank you for raising these sorts of issues. I think what you guys do is absolutely amazing. Hope countries around the world are a fan of your videos haha

  • i saw a pokemon easter egg and just today i saw the pokemon on television

  • Your other vids debate this vids topic.

    • @bocoy noiu Couldn't agree with you more

    • Can't we just get fusion / thorium reactors and stop taling about this forever.

  • EL EK TRI CITY

  • "Wellll it's CoMpLiCaTeD" This line is becoming iconic

  • I love your videos. But could you make a video about how renewables are everything but sustainable? Dams disturb natural flow of water. Wind and solar have many not recyclable parts, And the materials needed for it requires A lot of new mines to be opened in Africa and South America, destroying the habitat we need to protect. And the technology for renewables is hitting a plato. Its not the magic solution everybody is pretending it to be. And we're gonna NEED nuclear way more than people like to admit, a specially thorium reactors.

  • Modern Nuclear is renewable energy. A 300 life half decay is nothing, we could store that waste in a warehouse waiting for it to stop being radioactive compared to the amount of co2 fossils pump in the air. This is what China understand but the west won't compete because the masses were brainwashed to believe fossil fuels good, nuclear bad and a 10year development cycle means the politician who implements it does not reap the rewards as he will likely be out of office when it comes online.
