  • My thinking synchronizes with yours

  • 15:20 the weird thign is I remember a time when the internet, at least to me, did not exist yet that does seem qutie weird

  • Here’s a weird time illusion too.......why did I think you were way older than me, then come to find out we’re the same birth year!? Lol 86 gang!

  • Interesting little observation I noticed in this video. I’m watching with subtitles and no sound, and having hearing Michael’s voice from previous videos, I read those subtitles in his voice, connecting the image onscreen to the words. But what’s interesting is I imagined Michael’s voice slightly deeper with a beard than without. In the beginning, when he first switched from bearded to bald and back again, there was a subtle change in how I “heard” the voice. With no-beard Michael, it was slightly higher. And when it switched back, the same deeper voice from before took its place. Interesting how although no real change is likely actually happening, my brain changes incoming data based on visual information.

  • ok

  • Now I have to listen to semi charmed life

  • Old man struggles with the realities of time and age

  • This video REALLY rings true for me. I had nonidea Vsauce had a movie that covered this! Almost all of what is discussed, are things that I used to think about all the time, constantly questioning myself, looking for any possible answers or unifying truths. The concept of time and the awareness of other peoples self awareness... its enough to fry my brain if I think about it too much for too long. Thanks for.making this video. I'm so glad I found it!

  • Thats is a stupid statement. "Time" is the 4th dimension. Physically.

  • One of the reasons I LOVE books and stories so much, (particularly old ones, like 100 years or more, old.) is that when you are reading the book, especially if from the protagonist's POV, the world becomes so real and *FAMILIAR* to me. The way things are worded may be slightly off, but the people tend to react the same to varying stimulus, they all have emotions, they all have stressor, they all love, they all have flaws. It makes the people of the past (even if fictional) more realistic. Like, more of a real, actual person, who has a sense of self and daily life, wants and needs, just like we do today. It makes the people of the past more human, as opposed to simply animated pieces of history, or like they are tools to bring about further technology and comfort for us, today. It's so easy to forget that the people of the past, were indeed, feeling people. I've always considered this and thought about this topic an awful lot, as far back as I can remember. Yhats where I developed a keen interest in Anthropology. All the Mesopotamians were aware and loved. They fought with their spouse or lover, and now, now they are only a vague marker in human history. They are no longer recognized as individuals. And not just because we don't know much about any one person. I always wanted a time machine, but not for the normal, or more common reasons. The first thing I would do with a time machine, is go back to the first few centuries of Mesopotamia civilization, and ask them how old their ancestors are, where they came from, and what they knew about them. I would love to live a day (or a week, possibly a month or more.) in the life of these ancient cultures and people. I would love to go back and find the first few true humans and maybe the pre-humams, who were likely almost as smart as Homosassa Sapiens. I would go back far enough, to find the sweet spot. The spot that defines when a wild animal's intellect grows to the point that they are obviously aware of self and imagine things, day dream, and most importantly, laugh. Man. If only.

  • Can always count on Michael for the perfect existential crisis right before sleep.

  • Thank you Michael.

  • Michael there. Hey. Shave that beard. Keep it shaved, thanks.

  • Wait, your beard grows that fast???

  • Everyone recognizes the three states of time: the past, the present, the future. But there are two more: never, and always. Your major memories are like pearls, folded in the nacre of increasingly forgettable memories. Those major memories demarcate the eras of your life as you remember them. But every time you remember something, you're actually reconstructing the memory from the last time you recalled it. If you're not careful, you can *quickly* change a memory with false details, missing information, perspective shifts, new colors and imagined sounds... Etc.

  • Feel like he's talking directly to me.

  • That was dope.

  • I've been thinking about deleting my social media for a long time and this video made me decide to finally get it done. Instagram, snapchat, Twitter, gone. I'm gonna take my life back and have real experiences again.

  • He waited 5 months to grow his beard and in search of other thing and now you have this half an hour video🙄 but because of curosity i watched it fully😉

  • I’m 20 & I feel alone, scared & old.

  • We really need to revise our theory of relativity

  • God.

  • Is Michael really a time traveller? or are we?

  • Hey Michael.. great video. Time is an asshole. I wanted to add to the whole time moving faster as we get older by having more empty time with less experiences. It is also from less NEW experiences. As children all of our experiences are new and being learned for the first time. Many of these new experiences are important life lessons which are needed to be practiced often before it becomes instinctual. The learning of new things takes a longer time when we're going compared to as when we are older. Learning things faster as we age leaves room open for more empty time. That said if we are older and time seems to be going by faster it may not be just from doing less and experiencing less, because you can keep busy with routine and familiarity but still feel the passing of time going ever so quickly. To stop this you must learn new experiences, allow your brain to form new memories of life lessons,. The sad truth is the mind, body and soul don't all run on the same clock.. and unfortunately our bodies lack the power our minds and souls have which strive for longevity. It's Unfair that our time here in a place whose time of existence See's us as the speed of light is so short.. I mean give me a fucking break.. 2 million years of evolution and the best we've been able to do is a global avg life span of around 70 years old.. it's BS.. and good topic for another day. Anyhow, see y'all later, and as always thank you for reading.

  • This video was recommend to me for around 2 months. And finally I am watching this today 😆

  • the brain forgetting 3 days of isolation could also just be the brain trying to forget trauma lol

  • Imagine trying to explain this concept to people back then. Is there another way to think of time? Something that may come after this?

  • 14:14 This point really hit home for me when my dad told me a story when I was like 10 years old that started with "Back in my old days when I was around 10 years older than you" He recently retold it to me forgetting I had already heard it, except this time he started with "Back in my old days when I was your age" and it honestly left me alil shocked and stunned.

  • 12:53 totally agree. I remember a game called Medal Of Honor Underground 2 (2002 IIRC) with loads of nostalgia. After more than 12 years without seeing the game again, decided to give it a go... Was shocked. My mind remastered the graphics and made it look like a game way, way better in the graphics department. (Return To The Wolfenstein... Yes... This game looks way better)

  • i wonder how this all relates to quarantine days where very meaningless and uneventful things happen within our own actual perception

  • I hope this legend keeps uploading

  • My grandpa was born at a time when there were no antibiotics, and he lost hearing in his right ear when he got an infection... now his is still alive, and humans have used antibiotics so much that bacteria has evolved to survive them...

  • This helped calm my mind so much. I’m glad I’m not the only one who had questions like this.

  • Snarky Puppy - Lingus.

  • I would like to leave a comment for myself whenever I come back and watch this... I love you bud, have a nice day/night, take some deep breaths, you're gonna be fine

  • I’ve been feeling this way recently, but didn’t know how to explain it. I’ve always thought I had a bad memory, as I can’t really remember much of the last few years. I realized it’s because I’ve wasted so much time scrolling on my phone and absorbing useless information. Also, Staying home because of covid has made my days go by so quickly because majority of my day is spent online, talking to people on social media, watching NOlong videos, etc. anyway.. great video. Very thought provoking. It inspires me to put my phone down and be present in the moment.

  • I miss the old music lol

  • Vsauce has now made us go through the 1993 ponytail guy rabbit hole

  • The is no "illusion". When ones brain is active in joyfull way it processes the information (thinks). When there is nothing to think about or something is boring your brain looks at time wondering when the experience will end.

  • Michael shaved his beard off in 0:10, and it took him 5 months to grow back so he could make a new video

  • he's back..

  • Who is watching in 1994?

  • If someone dies in mid air will they decompose?

  • This will age beautifully

  • I fucking love u Michael

  • If only me not buying GSE was an illusion
